BUDGETS LAID BARE: GRANT CAMERON

Straight talking Grant Cameron, a partner with Deloitte Motor Industry Services took to the stage and spoke to our car dealers about why they should set a budget.

With a workbook in front of them which was tailored by Grant, dealers could take useful notes about real ideas and solutions for their future budgeting.

What he managed to bring to the forefront of the presentation was why budgets fail, citing reasons such as: the budget should be prepared by the DPs and not the managers; they're irrelevant and inflexible; and they dictate, which breeds resentment.

Detail and simplicity should go hand in hand when preparing a budget and a good budget allows managers to identify problems in processes, problems before they become an issue, and act as a motivator to allow opportunity and innovation.

Grant's presentation was filled with dealers from across Australia, all eager to take home new ideas to drive their business forward.
